i had a birth in my tank yesterday as i was dealing with a major outbreak of columanaris (sp?) i lost all 6 of my adult platies (i have only had them 3 weeks!!!!, $20 gone down the drain) anyway, now i have 20 fry that are still in the same tank in a breeding trap. right now they look happy and healthy but i have been treating them with permix (sp?) for fungal infections because the obviously were exposed.

my question is how can i help ensure their survival? i can't move them to another tank and infect that tank too

anything extra special i should do? right now i'm feeding fine crushed flakes but if they live till sunday with no signs of disease i'll pick up a thing of liquifry stuff i've heard about. It will have to wait till sunday because i can't get there till then.

Can someone at least resure me that i'm doing things at least half right?

Thanks

My platy fry get fed on crushed flake from birth, they seem to thrive on it! Since I let them grow out in the community tank I even see tiny fry attacking full sized flakes if they get past the bigger fish, it's so cute to watch :)
I've had adult platies die for no apparent reason after giving birth, I think sometimes the stress is too much. Maybe that, along with the illness caused some of your losses ?
Wilder is the right one to advise on treatment :) Most of us go hunting for her. As long as the fish seem healthy I don't think you'll have any problems. I've even had fry come through whitespot treatment unscathed.

i'm down to about 10 fry left. they are just dieing. they don't look sick or anything but they are dieing off. i am doing my best to keep them alive but i don't know if it will be enough.

damn just checked my tank and only 2 fry are still alive man from 20 -2 since friday. this tank will have to be completly dismantled and cleaned really well and recycled before i attempt anyother fish in it.

of course i hope my 2 emaining fry live but once they have a full weeks worth of treatment i'll put them in a huge breeding trap i have ( special made approx 5 gal in size) in my 55 gal tank to grow while i get the tank cleaned.
