i just bought a new tank set up tonight. i have my big 55 gallon hex tank for my community fish and im really getting into the aquarium hobby so i picked up a new 20 gallon tank and filter so far, ( still need heater and hood ) but i got the long tank not the tall one.

what kinda fish would be best for this tank, i kinda want it to look more ocean like so right now i have Estee's ultra reef marine sand in it.

im gona get some fake coral and ocean looking stuff in there.

now i need some fish that will get along but look ocean like. i was thinkin about a kenny and some african cichlids.

how should i set my tank up?

oh and i was thinkin about getting a few of thouse freshwater mini crabs to walk around on the sand at the bottom to make it look like the reef

The only aftrican cichlid you could keep in that small of a tank are kribs. You can pretty much put any not tall fish in the tank (so no angels).

yeh but i mean would an krib cichlid and a kenny get along. cuz i know cichlids and kennys are agressive fish.

Sounds like a nice tank idea.

One concern - does the ultra marine sand have stuff in it that may harm freshwater inhabitants?

Shrimp might look ocean-like.

Yeah be careful using marine sand...... you might find the ph of your water shooting up :/

yeh i was wondering the same and asked my fish store and they said it was fine. but ill know if i start to see any problems.

Kribs aren't aggressive. They are a wonderful community fish.

really?

so i can put my african cichlid kribs in with my danios and neons and guppy's :)
