I have a few questions about fry.

Firstly my first lot of fry are now 3 weeks old and I've noticed their mummy is expecting again.
I'm thinking of just letting nature take it's course in the community tank and see how many fry survive, is this a horrible thing to do?
If it is, can I put the new fry with the old fry?
I don't particularly want a house full of fry tanks :(

Secondly, the fry tank I have, I know is an aquanano, but not sure on which one so don't know the exact volume.
I have a video of it and how big the fry are now:

How long can I keep the fry in this tank?

It isnt a horrible thing to do because that what will happen in the wild.

You can put new fry in with old; the older ones are not usually big enough to eat the nest lot to come along.

It's not horrible to just leave the fry to take their chances in the main tank; the fate of most fry is to be eaten, that's why they have so many!

Measure the sides of your tank, then you can look it up on the AquaOne site :good:

Ha! I never thought of that lol.

Okay so it's only 12ltr, with 20 fry in. How long can I keep them in there then?

As for the new fry I'll leave them to nature then, I can't imagine I'd lose a lot, the main tank is 180ltr with plenty of hiding places.

Thanks for the comments, I was beginning to feel rather awful about that decision.

How long you can keep them in there really depends on how many water changes you do; the fry produce a hormone that stops them growing, once it reaches a certain concentration. That's going to happen quite quickly in such a small body of water, so you should probably be changing at least 50% of the water every day.

They only need to be in there long enough to grow to a size where the adults can't eat them. With daily water changes that should only be a few weeks or a month.
