The male with the dark tale and greenish body is the father of all those males with him and all of the females below except the two larger ones! <3

this is the all female guppy tank:

They like the top of the tank when i get near the tank because they think they are going to get food!!! :D

Nice tanks. :) They look very clean, and the fish look well-cared for. :D

And it's great you have males and females seperated to prevent inbreeding. Good for you!

As a side issue I see you have Serpae tetra. Do you find them hardy and are they aggressive? I was thinking of getting some

On another note....dont laugh :*) How do fish mate? I have never seen this before lol

and how long does it take them once they have mated to have there fry?

Guppies i mean...

If you look at the male livebearers, they have a long narrow fin on their bellys. The male basically looks like he is horassing the female. Pecks at her chases, and rubbs up against her a lot. Then they actually stick their belly fin off to the side and seems they use that to fertalize the female. Wow I sound like a perv watching the fish loving. I'm not sure exactly how long before ya get the babies. I know it varies.

edit : Found a website that words it better

Male guppies are forever courting. If a female remains stationary and her partner contacts her vent with his gonopodium, she is fertilized. The sperm is preserved in the female's oviduct, and so even after males are removed, a female is capable of having six or more broods. Gestation averages a month but can be much longer, depending on the time of year, health of the female, and conditions in the tank.

my seprae tetra seem to be actually very calm, but they can be some what agressive when it comes to feeding, but i never see them fighting with one another, they seem to be very peaceful. i love them i think you should get some!!! only time they will get agressive is over food, which is natural so yeah :)

in regards to mating what "smooth" said is basically what goes on... you always see the make around the female rubbing up next to her chasing her around... thats why when u set up a guppy breeding tank tis best to have 1 male to 2-3 females so that the females don't get to stressed out. especially durring labor! :) :shifty:
