1st tank - 70L, fishless cycled. Up and running for 3 months. 3 zebra danios, 1 guppy and 6 angels (each 1"). Over the past 4 weeks i have lost 4 of the original angels - the last 2 in the past 2 days. No obvious signs of disease. Fish behavior: started hiding at the back of the tank in the plants and not eating. Within a few days dead. Water stats perfect:
Ammonia 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 30
ph: 7.5
Temp: 27

2nd tank: 130L, fishless cycled. Running for 1 year. 7 guppies, 6 bn plecs, 1 tiger barb, 2 zebra danio, 6 neons and until recently 3 angels. I did have problems with camellanus worms and treated twice with levacide about 4-5 months ago. I recently lost 2 angels - they suddenly stopped eating and then 1 developed a big sore on its side.

Now I have my remaining angel not eating and hanging near the surface. Also 1 neon has a while spot near its gill (too big to be white spot - looks more like a cyst) and on its other side it has what looks like a sore (no redness to its edges tho).

I am so confused. Just setting up my Q tank to get the angel and neon out. I'm resigned to losing them, but dont want my other fish to die.

What can i do - to both tanks? please help

any chance of a picture of the sick fish?
angelfish can carry a virus that kills them but it usually happens when they are first introduced into the aquarium. I would be thinking it is probably a disease, maybe costia or something like that but we need more info on what the fish look like.

I will try and get some pics of the baby angels in the 1st tank and the dodgy looking adult in my main tank. The adult looks like his eyes have swollen slighty (but def not popeye) and he is hovering near the surface. Is it worth putting salt in my Q tank at 1 tbls per 10 gal?

you can try adding salt but angelfish don't really like it. However, it can help relieve stress and might help cure the fish.

Well the angel is a goner, it was dead this morning. I also removed 1 neon that looked on its last legs and I put
1 neon in my Q tank, but another couple of neons arent looking too good. Have no idea what is going on. Am tempted to just let nature runs it course and then close down my tanks. Am thoroughly fed up with it all

it sounds like there is a bacterial infection in the tanks. If you have any medication along the lines of "Waterlife Myxazin or Protozin" then you could try that.

To work out the volume of water in the tank
measure Length x Width x Height in cm
divide by 1000
equals volume in litres

When measuring the height, measure from the top of the gravel to the top of the water level. If you have big rocks or driftwood in the tank, remove them before measuring the height.

Before you treat the tank do a 50% water change and complete gravel clean. This will reduce the gunk in the tank and allow the medication to work more effectively. It will also lower the pathogen count in the water and mean there are less nasties around to infect the fish.

Remove carbon from the filter before treating otherwise it will absorb the medication out of the water.
