I am looking to use a sump for most of the filtration and to hide unwanted elements (heater being a prime one) for my new 85 gallon tank. B)

Downsize is the stand means that to have the size sump I want, I'll need it in two bits (a couple of 15 gallon tanks cos a 30 gallon just won't fit).

Does anyone have any experience of how best to connect these two parts up and what material would be best to fill it with (for a freshwater setup)? :dunno:

cheers

Andy

to connect them, I'd use a stand pipe, probally make it out of PVC.

ASCII art didn't show up right, sorry

Basically three peices of pipe with two elbows. This is assuming two tanks side by side. The hardest part will be getting all the air out of the pipe. you could fill it with water first, add temp. endcaps, then invert it and remove the endcaps after it was in place. There was someone who had pictures of where they connected two fish tanks together like this, except the pipe didn't go so far down.

I've never built anything like this before, but I hope this gives you some help.

^good source for diy idea's. some ideas are better than others though.

Thanks for help, but sorry -_-

I didn't make myself clear, the tanks are being made pre-drilled so will be connected straight together that way.

My question was more relating about how to create the overall sump (what to put in each part of the tanks).

I guess if I had thought through before I asked this would have been better placed... :(

Any way, I basically have two 24" x 14" x 12" (l x w x d) tanks, connected by a pipe from the bottom middle of one end. I'm mostly wondering about where to put in weirs, bubble traps and stuff like that.

Again, any help gratefully received
