2 quick questions...

okay i just setup my tank and got the filter running. i got a 20gal h tank and an aquaclear 150 w/ media and i got my lfs to donate me some bacteria

got 2 questions...

should i put the carbon packet in there or just let it go like it is?

since ive already started the cycling process could i still add a couple tiger barbs in there? should i cycle w/ fish in there?

my mom bought me 5 tiger barbs as like a lil surprise and they r about a 1/4" and they r so cute if i shouldnt add them for a lil while i will have to return em

the five tiger barbs should be ok as long as they are the only fish in the tank. return them if you want to do a fishless cycle. that is a very debatable question. with fish or with out fish for cycle. so that is best left to your preference. you need to put something that produces ammonia in the tank or the bacteria that you put in will have nothing to feed on.

I started my new tank with tiger barbs. It's been about a month, the tank is still cycling, but the barbs are doing awesome. They are super fun. Go ahead and put them in. they should be fine.

well i would say that tiger barbs are a hardy fish when it comes to water chemistry and they would be ok so long as the water has been left to cycle for say 3 days the filter will still cyle with the carbon filter in but will cycle faster without as the leval of waste will be reduced by the carbon filter. i would say you should keep the filter in because it will slow the cycling with imo is a good thing. the slower the cycle the less of an impact it will make on the fish (i dont think they would like the changes to be rapid) i could be wrong about the carbon see what others say.

i already put them in my tank is bare right now tho so ima bout to head and get some decor for it and the lil guys have only ben in for about an hour now

I forgot to post on topic...

When I started my tank, I put in 4 comet gold fish... and now I have almost completed the cycling on my tank, and guess what... I have 4 comet golds left.... I was going to take them back to the lfs after the cycling, but I am too nice to do that. I cant take them back knowign they will most likely not survive... Now, I am just going to keep them until I dont know when.
