how long after a water change until the kh and ph levels come back to normal
secondly I put a uv light in to clear an algae problem which it fixed and now do not know if I should run it nonstop or put it on a timer and just run it for a few hours a day to keep the algae from coming back.

Kh and pH levels should change pretty quickly at most a few hrs I would think.

Run the UV 24/7 it wont to any harm, and will keep green water and ich at bay permanently.
