Okay im making my first attempt at a java moss coat, on a plant pot and an old bird feeder. People tell me its a sinch but im still worried ive coats them too thick/ruined it in some other way!

Plant pot (sorry this is difficult to photo as its obscured from the front)

Finally, can anyone tell me what this plant is (in the foreground, not the vallis). Is it good/bad news?

Hi, try spreading the java moss out more, it will grow alot better. Use fishing line or cotton to tie it to your plantpot and birdfeeder, the elastic band will show too much.

Im not sure what plant that is but i have it in both my tanks and it grows very well. Look at the pic in my sig.

i agree, spread the moss out a bit more.

is there another picture for the plant ID because i cant see one in the original??

Thanks, will re-do the moss today. Whats the best thing to do if I have some spare? Will it be okay in a ball just on the tank floor?

aaronnorth: The third picture is for the plant ID.

you can use it elsewhere, leave it on the tank floor, or sell it. or you could have a go at growing it emerged.

for some reason they didnt come up the first time, i can see them now??

the plant looks like hygrophillia polysperma.

Right ive re-covered them now and the moss is much sparser, so hopefully itll grow quickly and ill get a nice coating soon. Ive still got LOADS left over though (about a golf ball sized ball). Ive found a brick with hole in in the garden and think ill have a go at coating it too, but is it safe to use? Ive boiled it so hopefully any nastys have been killed, im just a little worried about my clown loaches getting stuck in the holes.

Otherwise I guess ill just leave it in a ball to float around the tank. Should I anchor it down with anything?

not sure about the brick, IMO it wil be safe but ask in tropical discussions to make sure. Perhaps use a rock instead?

You dont have to tie it down.
