So, I got a shipment of plants in a couple days ago. I ran out of bleach, so I couldn't bleach them before introduction to my tank. Since I've 'caught' a few nasties by skipping a bleach (the damselfly nymphs immediately leap to mind), I put all of them into a 2 gallon bowl.

I wasn't in a hurry to relocate them, so it's been about a week and naturally I've seen things hatch in there during that time.

The first one I saw pop out were Malaysian Trumpet Snails, and just today, I saw Ramshorn snails. I emailed the seller and he confirms those are in his tanks, and he's pretty sure they're the only sorts in his tanks. He didn't tell me if he's got algae or not.

I know I was pleased to see the MTSs, since I have 1 sandy tank and 1 tank about to become sandy. The ramshorn snails, I'm less thrilled with.

ATM, I have pond snails in my heavily planted tank. I think I've only ever seen two in there, at a time. They don't eat my plants (I must be the luckiest person on earth), and while they've tried to breed several times, my ghost shrimps seem to eat their eggs before they hatch - or after, whatever works for them.

What you think? Should I keep 'em?

I'm thinking of maybe plucking out the MTSs, one or two, and putting them into my tanks, and then bleach dipping the other plants before introduction. Both tanks are planted, both tanks have or will have sand.

Hi soritan :)

If they are the small red ramshorns, they are pretty and I bought them, specially for my fry tanks. Of course they have migrated to some of my other tanks too, which is a little annoying. They are fairly prolific.

If they are both red and dark ones, that's not so good. Eventually they will all breed dark and they are less desirable.

They seem rather transluscent, at the moment. I think I'm going to let them sit until I get more MTSes. I think I'd like to have at least 5 MTSes to introduce into one tank. By then their shells ought to be less transparent.

Or... are the reds transparent?

I do rather like snails. I thought a time or two of getting myself an Apple, but I fear for my planted tanks.
