Okay i got some rummy noses, noticed one had no anal fin or back fin at all, assumedly from shopkeeper when it got stuck in the net so he dangled the net and flicked it into the bag (my god i cant believe that)

But then 2 of my neons started going near the top, and i noticed they had ripped back fins too (from same shop)

1 has died now, and the other is definitely on the way out, ive checked other fish, and i watch them for up to half an hour, and none of the fish are violent, ive got a peaceful community of fish.

Ive done tests and i bought a different master test kit to make sure

many times my water has come out as

Ammonia-0
Nitrite-0
Nitrates-10ppm, 20 at most.

I feed them once-twice a day and what they can eat in 10 minutes at the very longest.

Why is this happening to me?

All the other fish seem fine, the cory that lost its barbels still has red gills, but now its got a white spot on its head (my god dont say its white spot)

The cory and the 2 ill/dead neons are all from the same shop (bit of a dumpy shop too)

My tank is fully cycled, ive been checking water twice a day with different test kits and the water is seemingly perfect.

Im using a "general tonic" from interpet but if that white spot gets bigger or others start getting it im going to start quarantining fish and treating for white spot.

This sucks, a fully cycled tank and its the shops fault ive got problems by the looks of things.

Brown algae is growing in my tank like MAD though, but my nitrates are as low as can be, my tap water is 5-10ppm nitrates.

Brown algea is normal in a new tank, it is feeding off the silicates leached from the new silicone :good:

Sounds like a bacterial issue to me, I'd run a course of Waterlife Myxazin to clear it cince this is an external issue rather than internal. The white lump is probibly Culmanris (spelling) and the loss of fins probibly fin rot..Any red streaks to the fins? Cotton wool like growths?

I'd avoid frequenting that shop again as it sounds a little off to me. Myxazin can treat both infections and takes 5 days to cure. Do large frequent waterchanges throughout any anti-becterial treatments, as they are had on the filters and may caurse a mini cycle. Watch water stats also.

HTH and good luck

I would definitely complain to the manager. They should not be so rough with the fish. I’ve had someone drop the fish on the floor and they were going to give me that same fish. My mouth dropped but I told them to give me a different one.

But I agree, it does sound like a bacterial infection. But also keep an eye on that white spot and if more appear you have ick. Check every day because once they get it, it’s fast that more appear. But ick is easy to cure.

Brown algae or even green is nothing to worry about. Just scrub the tank with an algae scrubber.
