I have 4 clown laoches all the same age (bought togehter/same size). Just noticed tonight that 2 of the 4 have got large round stomachs and the other 2 are looking slim and normal. All are swimming about and acting normally. Is the fat stomach an indication of a disease or have they simply over eaten? I'm assuming they aren't pregnant as breeding clown loaches in captivity is near on impossible, correct? Never seen fat clown loaches before so first thing was to log on here and ask!

i didn't know they couldn't be breed. and i was thinkign about buying some for my friends small pond to breed for me...

anyway, it is most likely internel parasites. if they were pregnant they would of taken longer to have there bellies grow. someone else should be able to direct you to a good medication.

i don't believe it can spread to the other fish if your worrying about that.

either parasites or they ate too much. my female guppy did that once and made me think she was pregnant, for 3 months...

No impossible to breed them.
Right look out for when they go to the toilet.
For now some shelled peas.

they may be constipated? just a thought. i know fish can do that and get kinda fat because of it. it's usually fatal. but thats probably not what they have.

hi,
Ive kept clown loaches before . i would keep an eye on them when you feed them but i don't think you've got anything to worry about. clown loaches need lots and lots of food, much more than they get in our aquariums thats why they don't breed because they don't reach their potential. they love bloodworms and when i used to feed mine they would hoover it up and their bellies would look huge but it would go down. i think thats what's happening in your tank

Absolutely spot on by the looks of it! This morning their tummies are back to normal, the two fats ones just over fed themselves  Never seen that happen in fish before but know not to worry in the future.

Thanks for the replies.
