I have a 6 gallon and an 8 gallon spare... Can I get 2 DP's and keep them separate? I do want to breed DP's one day and will keep them separate till I'm ready to but what are your opinions? Should I try breeding them? I was praised so much for successfully breeding paradise fish but this is a real challlenge that I want to complete. I have homes for any successful 'broods'.

Haven't a clue but sounds like a good project. :good:

Thanks Micko. It's a project I've been thinking about since I decided to get one puffer but my 6 gallon has been recently cleared out as all fish were sold from that tank, so I thought I'd ask about and see what people thought.

I am sure some one with more knowlege then I will be along but I was told 20 gallon min on a pufferor they go a little stir crazy... only reason I do not have one yet.

I've been told 5 minimum for a single.

also this was my post when I asked about the 5 gallon before you mentioned the DP and then said no puffer. Not trying to be argumentative. If they would be okay in a 5 gallon then cool but kinda giving mixed info so I wanted to be sure.

I only would recommend a DP for a 5 gallon if the person who is buying is familiar with the species and could afford to upgrade eventually if the puffer is showing signs of stress.

Ps-might be good to start a new thread about your set up again.

I'd keep them separate until they are Mature so I know whether or not they are male or female... Then they would go in the 8 gallon together and any babies would be raised in the 6 gallon.

Some guy called Sam on here bred them, I can't remember his actual username, but might be worth searching for.

Thats just what Puffers do. They get bored very easily if their tank is not very interesting. Even if it is well planted they still spend alot of the time going up and down the glass through boredom.

I've got them! I got them both yesterday, they are just over a centimetre long and already eating lobster eggs and daphnia. They're very interested in their surroundings and so far haven't started pacing the glass. They're nicely proportioned as well, meaning they aren't skinny or anything but they aren't fat either. Too young to tell their genders for sure yet but I'm sure it's a male and female.
