Hey guys, i posted a problem about my pleco dying on the 16th, at feeding time tonight i noticed a poor little neon floating on the surface! Went to bed thinking i will test tomorrow but couldnt sleep thinking about it so came down to do all the tests now, results looked fine....
PH- 8.0
Ammonia- 0.1mg/l
Nitrite- 0.0mg/l
Nitrate- 25mg/l
Temperature- 24degrees C

What else can there be wrong?! I had ich around 3 weeks back but that all cleared up and ive not seen anything unusual since! My betta seemed rather 'mellow' tonight but he just gets like that sometimes (normal?) Both my female mollies are pregnant, would that distress the other fish? Both deaths have been since the introduction of the betta, previous to that there were no problems.

Am i doing something wrong??
Is there something 'fishy' about my betta? ;)
Any thoughts/guidance??

Jo

Another one of my neons is doing crazy things right now! Im really worried! He's kinda flipping over and over as if hes falling from the top of the tank to the bottom! Is this normal nightime behaviour for neons? (Ive not had them before) His stripe doesnt seem very bright either compared to the others. The light is off right now, perhaps hes just sleeping?? Help please!!!

You have a slight ammonia reading there i would recommend a water change.
Whitespot can cause bacterial infection, if the fish is flipping over and has no balance it sounds like swim bladder.

Also take a look to see if any fish are flicking and rubbing, any laboured breathing.

Have you added any new fish since the whitespot outbreak.

What do you feed the fish as to many dried foods are not good for fish can lead to constipation, but something is not right with the neons at all, parasites can cause bacterial infections, just make sure you havent got another outbreak of parasites, things to look for a grains of salt on the fish, yellowish to gold dusting on then, even can look like a dusting of talc, check the gills to see if the look pale with excess mucas on them, or red and inflamed.

All the fish look absolutely normal, since we got rid of the whitespot, ive added a betta and the 5 neons, im already down to 4 and one of those is currently spiralling around the tank. The rest seem fine still. On sunday and monday they had frozen bloodworms, yesterday flake food and today frozen brine shrimp. so im trying to vary their diet. someone suggested perhaps they are older fish since it is only the neons who are affected, perhaps i will return the remaining ones to LFS tomorrow as its a bit odd losing 2 in one day?? What do you reckon?

Neons are very funny fish they don't travel to well, plus they can die in a day when you add them to the tank through the stress, plus they like mature tanks of six months.
Going pale can be a sign of stress, plus they can look pale when you first put the tank light on.
How long has the fish been pale, there is a desease called ntd, but also you can get false ntd which is saddleback columnaris, make sure the red stripe dosnt look bleached out, also is there any lumps or bump on the neons in the tummy region that go to a point, do the neons look bloated.

Just want to make sure how long have you had the neons, and did you match the ph and climatise them properly, so what was the ph of the store to your tank, as they can show this behavour with ph shock.

God, Wilder this is a nightmare... the spiralling fish has in the last few moments laid himself to rest on top of a plant, i believe he is now gone :( There are now 3 left, one is very pale and the other 2 keep nudging him. theres clearly something wrong and i feel like removing them all from the tank in case they infect my mollies and betta with whatever is wrong with them. Is this a good idea??

Or bless him he's exhausted, not sounding good to be honest, it sounds like a parasite if they are acting like this or ph shock, how long have hou had them as surprising it can take up to two weeks to kill a fish.
What was the ph of the store if you no, to your ph of your tank, and how long did you climatise them for.
Any signs of laboured breathing or flicking and rubbing.
Also fish that spin does it look like they are chasing there tails.

Been there so know how you feel, you feel helpess in these situations.

No not sure of the stores PH to be honest, ive not heard of testing for that! By climatise do you mean floating the bag in the tank? We did this for around 20-30 mins, no theyre not really chasing their tails, the first one was just spiraling over and over and knocking into things, the last one is just quite still and the other 2 keep nudging him. as we are speaking they are all starting to look worse, 2 of them are very twitchy and the other one keeps nudging them along. Should i take them all out now? i dont have a spare tank for them, so it would just be a matter of putting them into a bowl cos i assume theyre all gonna die anyway...?:(

the first fish is definately dead, or in a very deep sleep :/

To be hoenst it sounds like ph shock and yes if the others are not looking to good either it not sounding promising, i would phone the store to check there ph, and take a sample of your water to the lfs as it's very important that you know your ph, i wouldn't remove them from the tank as you have no heater.
If you think there not going to make it and are in a bad way, get a container just a small one fill it with very cold water, add some ice cubes then add the fish its a very quick death, but leave them a while just to make sure they have passed on, so sorry not nice i know.

Think i may have to get my bf to do that, one of them is still quite perky but the others look worse for where (almost white in colour). I know it sounds and feels cruel but I cant bear the thought of losing my mollies or betta! I have 2 heavily pregnant mollies and would be so annoyed if anything happened to them! Better go wake my bf up! Thanks for your help!! xxx

He said no, just leave them in there! Maybe its cos its nearly 2am... he'll just get the mortalities out in the morning. Im just praying it is just PH shock and the other fish wont be affected. Never mind, i have 2 lots of molly fry to look forward to

Your ph is 8.00 sorry just noticed that, phone lfs and ask what there tank ph was what they kept the neons in.
As i'm still at this moment in time going for ph shock, need to rule it out.

I'm off to bed now was on my way, but don't like to leave you in the lurch, good luck and keep us all updated.
