2 chasing

These 2 goldfish appear to be trying to dominate each other. One would say mating behaviour, well maybe male and female im not sure. One a lot bigger than the other, female maybe. Problem is they circle each other at feed time and when they see me. They have been doing this behaviour for months. Plenty of hiding places for then. Can anyone tell what they are both male or female or one of each because im really not sure. Maybe moth male and one smaller, I really dont know. To me its like a dominate thing but that's why im asking cause I dont know. No white dots showing on either Fish, just circular bum nudging behaviour.

It' not possible from the photos to determine gender. They look like young fantails.Yes? What size are they (body without tail) and how long have you had them? If you do not see tubercles (the "white dots" you mention) and the behavior is going on for months, then it is unlikely it is mating behavior and more likely two males jockeying for dominance at feeding time.

Thanks this what I think too, one is a lot larger. I have separated them now because the behaviour increased and I was worried it would go too far and one get hurt.

I doubt there would be damage. Goldfish are social and do best in numbers. Instead of separating them, you might want to consider adding one or two more depending on the size of your tank and your water change regimen. My goldfish tank requires the most attention. They produce a lot of waste!

I have put the smaller one in with white clouds and put some white clouds in with the other. One is in a 36L tank and the other in a 36L large bowl
I have had them in the tank together and they dont do this its only when they are in the round 36L bowl. Yes they are messy more so than tropical fish. I noticed the bigger one appears stressed and hides at times it develops a shiny large cyst like thing on the side of the end of its back fin. It comes and goes? No clue what this is but since removing the behaviour it has disappeared almost. The two appear a lot calmer swimming with the cloud fish. Problem is they chase each other and spin around quite vigorously. Ill keep a eye on them and see how it goes. I dont think there is room for more goldfish in the circle 36L I got them as little goldfish and since in the round bowl they have trippled in size. The tank and bowl are both 36L but the bowl is extra extra large very wide like a fish pond.
