2 Bettas in a tank

was just wondering would it be possible to have 2 bettas in a large tank?

as the fish must come accross each other in the wild and i know they will probably fight until one retreats, but what size tank would you need so a fish could have its own territory?

assuming the tank provided plenty of cover and places to hide?

how big do you think the tank would have to be?

It would have to be massive to replicate seperate siamese enviroments.

Even if there was plenty cover I would expect two males to attack and chase each other.

You could get away with 2 girls in a massive tank but I would advise it

im not thinking of doing it, i have no room for a big tank,

it was just a question i thought of and thought i would ask,

thought someone would know about it.

and bettas must live along side each other in the wild.

i know there was a girl in beginners just this week saying that she had tried putting a second male into her 100g. the new boy was dead the next morning. i doubt the tank was very heavily planted, but the fish apparently fought in the dark.

it'd need to be a REALLY big tank.

there is a website that says they can be kept together if the tank is big enuff and you have peacefull fish they even say they had a group of females maybe it was a joke but i wudnt try it my fighter tries to kill his reflection!

just read somewhere that a guy did an experiment and released 2 bettas into the middle of a lake and they still ended up fighting.

so maybe its just not meant to happen,

but just makes you wonder how they survive in the wild

theres some japanese website for that sort of thing, they take bets and that, lots of things ie chickens and rats etc..

Keeping two male bettas together in a large tank seems good in theory because they could have separate territories, but the problem is that these fish do not have the temperament of their wild counterparts. In the wild, bettas can meet, have a little quarrel, and go their separate ways... but the bettas we are all familiar with were bred for fighting long before they were bred for beauty, and that aggressiveness persists even today. You may get lucky and have two extremely docile males, in which case the two-in-one-tank scenario could work, but chances are they'll just continue fighting until one dies from wounds or stress.
