If you couldn't tell by my name, I have a betta named Poe. He's red and I got him a few days ago. When I got him home, I immediately got everything washed and set up. He sat and swam happily in my living room for two days before I brought his whole vase setup into work to keep on my desk here (where I spend most of my time). Now that I have him here in the office, he won't eat anything!! I've bought 3 different kinds of food and he just WON'T eat! I'm getting worried, I don't want my pretty new fish to die.

My other problem is not my fish. My supervisor at work also has a betta on her desk. His name is Fishy and he was my buddy for weeks, but ever since I brought in Poe to work, Fishy puffs out his face at me and swims to the other side of the bowl, like I was a male betta or something. I think he's angry at me, because I don't pay as much attention to him. Could this be true?

thanks for any help you can give me!!! :)

Do you keep him in a tiny little vase? I hope that you do regular water changes. If he's in a vase, you should change the water minimum every other day, if not every day. Fish poo and uneaten food produces amonia wich can kill fishies and in such a small tank there's no room for errors. Don't forget to add dechlorinator to the new water. He's most probably stressed because of this and that's why he won't eat. He should settle down once the water's ok.

Bettas are real carachters so maybe Fishy is jealous - who knows

It's not really a tiny little vase, I use a whole gallon of spring water in it when I clean it. Do I still need to use a dechlorinator if I'm using spring water?? Thanks for responding, btw. :)

I don't think that spring water has any chlorine added, so you should be ok. Is Poe eating now?

Nope. He's still not eating. And I don't want to buy ANOTHER kind of food to try. Other than the eating thing, he seems fine. He swims happily when I come by, he's making the 'sticky bubbles', his color hasn't faded/dulled, he just won't eat.

lol. It's possible, but I don't think so, cause there's constantly food floating on the water's surface. :) Anyway, I'm sure he'll stop being stubborn soon and eat. Thanks for your help!!!

Odd.....my bettas also named Fishy
And boy oh boy can he throw a tantrum. He lays on the rocks like he's dying if I don't stop and wiggle my finger at him when I walk by
You should beg for Fishys forgiveness, he thought he was your one and only
He probably looked forward to your occasional visits ;)

Ok, two things. First, bettas will often be wary and scared when you put them in a new home. It's new, it's strange (to them), they don't know if danger lurks somewhere. It takes them a couple of days to determine this is unclaimed territory. During that time, they often will not eat. However (secondly), you didn't mention where you got him from but he may be suffering from a low-grade infection that isnt' showing yet--especially if he was living at somewhere like Petco for while where he didn't have very good care for extended periods of time, in which case, he isn't feeling well and will need medicating.

try putting him in betta max it seem to do wonders for them

I was out of the office for two days and asked Fishy's owner to take care of Poe and when I came in this morning and fed him, he ate all his food right up. Fishy's mom said he was eating everything while I was gone. I guess he was just being picky, but he finally settled on what I started feeding him with, betta bites. thanks for your help!! :)

 try giving him some cooked chicken they love it I only give it to mine when I get ready to change the water out he loves it I read some where that most bettas starve to death because of thier lack of meat. I also give him blood worms. He really loves them and I mix all the betta foods together I take the pellets and the betta flakes and the freeze dried blood worms and I chop all of them up and he go to town. try it once it sounds like your betta is spoiled rotton just like mine is.I truly think they are the best fish on the market.
