2.5 Gallon?

I have an empty 2.5 gallon tank that I have no idea what to do with it. There aren't many fish, if any at all, that can live in 2.5 gallons of water. I'm not so fond of shrimp. I could do plants, but I really want some life to the tank. I am fixing the seal on it right now. Then I'll start my cycle. So I have at least a few weeks to decide.

a betta would be ok in 2.5G you could put some live plants and a few cherrys in as well? or some other small shrimp

What's the dimensions u could set it up to have vampire crabs in there they are pretty cool

It's 12 x 8 x 6 inches. I can't find any filters for a tank this small that hang on the back. They all sit inside and take up room.


Mike- I already have a betta in a 5 gallon. I don't like putting bettas in less than that because they need room to move and swim freely. This tank isn't big enough for that.

U could use it for some sort of crabs they need 2 3rds land 1 3rd water as they spend more time out of the water just a sugestion lol

The way I'd do it is have sand as a substrate slightly sloping to one side then then put rocks or some wood etc on the higher side some moss maybe a little bit of wood on there then put the water in on the side with no rocks but. The only problem tho is I don't know how you would keep it warm enough in there maybe some 1 else would have an idea how to do that.

As for inhabitants, you really aren't looking at much aside from shrimp. A few Asian Stone Catfish may work, but they do better in 3+ gallons and can be rather sensitive to water conditions from what I gather. Here is an article about them, http/www.seriouslyfish.com/profile.php?id=777 , note that they suggest 12.5 L (just over 3 gallons) as minimum tank size.

IMO, 2.5 gallons is too small for any fish. Shrimp, yes, but as far as I'm aware, there aren't really any fish that will excel in a 2.5 gallon tank.

You could just keep it around and use it for hospitalizing sick fish and quarantining new fish, if you don't have a tank for that already. Otherwise, I think a single male betta would fare well in that tank. Or a freshwater crab, or a shrimp tank.
