heated and filtered... all live plants, and the brown blob on the right is a coconut cave. :D

home to nothing but 1 male betta. he's already pretty well established so i dont want to add tankmates now... but eventually i have plans to stock it with a sparkling gourami and a few ghost shrimp... any thoughts?

Nice naturall looking tank :good:

I'm sorry to say that it is only big enough to house the betta though

thanks :fun:

any reasoning as to why you don't think it could house a sparkling gourami? from what i understand, betta and sparklers are both gouramis, and sparklers are only about the size of a female betta.

The tank really is only just about big enough for the Male Betta and with a Sparkling Gourami in there as well it would just be unsuitable.
Im not too sure about the shrimp though, you could maybe have a few but I dont know if they prefer living in groups or anything.

yeah, i was thinkin long term, when the betta eventually passes on i'll replace him with a sparkling gourami and a few shrimp.... any thoughts on that idea?

You could do a couple shrimp but you always have the risk of him eating the shrimp. Some bettas are just plain mean and will go after anything you put in there. I would think in that small of a tank the sparkling would just get picked on. Not to mention the post above, it's just really not big enough. In a 10 gallon I would say try it and see what happens, but not a 2.5.

Your set up is great! looks fab and i bet that boy loves it :)
i would also steer clear of the gourami for now. shrimp are a great choice and in my experience bettas tend to ignore them for the most part. some "pest snails" may also be a good addition. they will keep the plants clean of algae and you should not be overrun with them unless you over feed the tank. snails are very interesting little critters. i have TONS of them (and they are always welcome in my tanks. they serve a great purpose, esp. with plants).
great job on the tank!
cheers
