Hi, I started my tank three months ago and have a mixture of tetras, platys and danios. just noticed this evening 4 baby fish hiding up by the pump, what is the best course of action to take to help these little guys out?i dont know who the mum is but i suspect my blue platy as that seems fatter, how can i ensure they are all well please

my advice would be to get a breeding box or sumthing which seperates them from rest of fish as thy are food if thy are small enough to fit in any other fishes mouths also they are going to need some realli fine food such a crushed flake as in realli crushed.

sumone will have better advice for food but thts wht i would do

You'll be overrun with them soon - heres a few suggestions

keep the rest of the fish well fed - will reduce predation
put some floating plants in, for the fry to hide amongst
catch the fry if you can and raise them in another tank
reduce light levels or duration

I usually just leave our baby platties in situ, they seem to do very well in the big tank on their own without my help - however, I am really replying because your post had one of the cutest titles I have ever seen

we raise platy fry in a seperate tank but you can just get a little breeding net to hang in your tank

it is fun at first to try and save them all but as said before, after 6 months of saving them all you won't know what to do and will need more tanks to grow them out!

the reason we breed ours is to feed our larger fish and we do keep a few from every batch to replace the dying fish

for food, we either hatch baby brine shrimp as it is really cheap or we buy hikari fry food, which is quite cheap too!
