17" Plec

Our rainbow shark seems to clean our 17" common plec, Mr. Plec doesn't seem bothered by this, but the fact that the rainbow shark practically climbs inside his mouth is a little worrying. Has anyone else heard of anything like this?

Hi, I would like to see a picture of that! How old is your pleco? I have a Common too, I have had it since May when it was about 2 - 3" and now it is 9". They are good natured fish but I don't know if it's safe for another fish to go inside it's mouth! I have Mollies and they tend to keep out of it's way. My Pleco "cleans" the Golden Apple Snail.

Bought him about 9 months ago and he has grown about 4 inches, don't know how old he is. Only paid £15 for him. He gets on well with all the other fish in the tank which is a 100 gallon.

I plan on getting a common pleco with 2 oscars in a 125 gallon the oscars are about 5 inchs, Do you know if it will work? They wont bother a big plec but i would like a medium sized one to grow large instead of shelling the money out for one already big pleco.

How much do Common Pleco's grow per month?? I have 2 in my tank, had them about 4 weeks, there roughly 3"

1" per month if kept in top quality conditions, (or so i've read).

once plecs get to a fair size there diet needs to be suplemented with meaty foods such as muscles, cockles, prawns and lance fish.

as you can probable imagine there's only so much protein they can get from algae so to maintain there health once bigger chuck in some meaty foods!
