With a cold water tank, you are really limited to what you can get. If you put in a heater, then you'd be much more open to options.

Also, if you haven't already, you may want to read this on cycling your filter, as nitrates aren't the only thing you need to be cautious of in a new tank :good:

Is it cycled? The only species I can see it being suitable for is Scarlet Badis and shrimp if it's kept at room temperature.

I'm really sorry to have to tell you this, but there's no coldwater fish you can keep in a 17l, as far as I know.

If you added a heater, you could keep possibly a betta, or two or three Endler's or some shrimp.

How have you cycled your tank? how long has it been set up?

i have a pretty good filter, i assume this is what you mean by *cyled....its been set up for 7 days now. So i would be better off getting a heater?

By cycled I mean, you've added ammonia to your tank to build a bacterial colony, I'm sorry but it's going to be at least a month before your tank is ready for fish, please read the fishless cycling topic in the beginners section.

you could get sea monkeys

do as flutter says, get a heater and have a betta fish you will get many years of joy with them.

but research cycling first and learn about bettas or sell it towards a bigger tank
