Hey everyone!

No, the 150 isn't for me, I'm happily working on my 180. ^_^ A friend of mine however, is setting up her 150 gallon and needs your help! She wants a semi-aggressive community tank. Her one true love are Tiger Barbs and so no matter what, the tigers must stay! :p Here's what she's brainstormed so far:

Tiger Barbs
Black Skirt Tetras
Rosy Barbs
Serpae Tetras
Giant Danios
Red-Tailed Tinfoil Barbs (not Tinfoil Barbs!)
Gold Barbs
Kribensis

She loves Red-Tailed Sharks but she's worried that the Kribs may declare war on the poor fellow...or quite possibly the vice versa. So no Red-Tails on the list.

You guys know what to do! Please fill in numbers for me and give all the suggestions and advice in the world. I convey her thanks to you in advance. :D Know any other fish that are tough cookies but not killers on a rampage? Recommend away! ;)

In a 150G a RTB or rainbow shark will be fine, both these and Kribs won't show hardly any aggression in a 150G because there will be plenty of space for the two to co-exist.

Even red-tailed Tinfoils will be too big for the other species and you may find smaller fish like the gold barbs will be consumed once they grow.

IMO It would be good to just have an asian biotope made up of varying Cyprinids such as;

15 x tiger barbs
5 Rosy barbs
5 Giant Danios
5 x Red torpedo barb
5 Botia kubotai or Lohachata
5 x Siamese Algae Eater
3 x three spot gourami

Alternatively you could look at Rainbow species, or less aggressive cichlids, such as Rams, Keyholes, curviceps, or possibly larger species like Sajicas, Rainbow Cichlids or a Severum

Ah, that's too bad. The red-tailed tinfoils really are a sight, especially when kept in a large school. 15 Tigers sounds like a solid number, and I also like the rosy barb and giant danio idea. I'll let my friend know about the RTB shark- that'll probably make her happy. :p Thank you for suggesting the Red Torpedo Barb, I've never kept them and so this was the first time I looked them up! How gorgeous. :D She'd really like to keep with the stock list she has now though (if they can co-exist peacefully of course) After some more talk with her, she's up for the following list:

15 Tiger Barbs
5 Rosy Barbs
5 Giant Danios
6 Serpae Tetras
6 Black Skirt Tetras
6 Gold Barbs
2 Kribensis
1 Red-Tailed Black Shark
5 Polka-Dot Loaches

She's slightly paranoid regarding overcrowding the tank LOL so please comment and let us know what the best numbers would be. Other suggestions regarding fish would also be appreciated.

15 Tiger Barbs 37.5 inches
5 Rosy Barbs 20 inches
5 Giant Danios 20 inches
6 Serpae Tetras 12 inches
6 Black Skirt Tetras 12 inches
6 Gold Barbs 15 inches
2 Kribensis 8 inches
1 Red-Tailed Black Shark 6 inches
5 Polka-Dot Loaches 25 inches

= 147.5 inches in 150G

although considering the size of the fish they will be keeping I would be happy to up this to 1.5 inch per Gallon
So realistically she could add another 75inches of fish if she wanted

Oh good, so she's not overcrowding. In that case, what do you suggest? Keeping a greater school of the fish already on the list or maybe adding another species? If so, what species? As you can see from her list, she prefers smaller fish although semi-aggressive behavior is definitely wanted so that they can handle all the other tough cookies in here. :good:

if you can add to that list and if theyde det along they should get some albino tiger barbs very nice fish

Hi there bae1994! ^_^

I was actually wondering, would different types of Tigers school together? If that's the case, then she'd probably want a variety. Maybe 8 normal tigers and 8 albinos? There's also the green variety isn't there? Perhaps 8 of each then? Any other suggestions from anyone? :)

Thank you for that pic by the way, absolutely lovely.

i believe they do shoal together

Fantastic :good: So now the list stands at...

8 Tiger Barbs
8 Albino Tiger Barbs
8 Green Tiger Barbs
5 Rosy Barbs
5 Polka-Dot Loaches
6 Black Skirt Tetra
6 Serpae Tetra
5 Giant Danios
1 Red-Tailed Black Shark
6 Gold Barbs
2 Kribensis

Bloodfin tetras anyone?

Hoe about just the barbs. 25-30/ea tigers/albinos/greens.
That would be sweet

Hi again :)

I'll talk it over with her. It's possible since she's such a TB fan. At the moment I think she's looking at a community though. She always keeps tigers, probably wants some variety. :p

24 Tiger Barbs (assorted)
5 Rosy Barbs
5 Polka-Dot Loaches
6 Black Skirt Tetra
6 Serpae Tetra
5 Giant Danios
1 Red-Tailed Black Shark
6 Gold Barbs
2 Kribensis

Someone suggested she add Dojo Loaches to this mix. Is that a good idea or bad? From what I've heard, Dojo's need cooler water and the temperature in this tank might run rather high for them. Let me know! ^_^

you know what im gonna say as soon as you say loach. lol

LOL definitely. Dojo's seem awesome. Here's the list as of now: (she's added a few to the current schools)

24 Tiger Barbs (assorted)
6 Rosy Barbs
8 Black Skirt Tetra
8 Serpae Tetra
6 Giant Danio
1 Red-Tailed Black Shark
8 Gold Barbs
6 Polka Dot Loach
2 Kribensis

First off, any room for a Dojo Loach? Secondly, I don't think they like to be alone, and so room for more?
