15 BLACK MOLLIES!!

I just bought a pair of Black Mollies tonight. When they were bagged, clerk noticed that the female had just had a baby in the bag and made a joke by saying "hey you just got 2 for the price of 1"
I have had live bearers in the past & knew she would possibly have more if she didn't have them already in the mollie filled tank at the store.
by the time I got home there were 3 babies!!

I happen to have a breeding net so I set it up in the tank and placed her in. almost right away she went to work!! Baby after baby came out, one by one , then another and another!! she must of got stressed into labor!!! Poor mommy.
Any wway I am glad to have got her because these babies surely would have been eaten. The store was about to close for the night, they would'nt have made it. The tank they were in had about 30 to 40 mollies of adult size. This was at PetSmart , so I know they might not have noticed babies in the tank at such a late hour.

So I know have counted 15 babies & she is all done giving birth. She is now in the big part of the tank and happy as ever!!

My question here is...
It has been years.. I mean like 12 to 13 years since I had fish babies. I forgot what to feed them!!! Can they or will they eat finely ground flake food??

I bought something from PetSmart called "First Bites". It works really well and the babies eat it up...good luck with yours.

I get a frozen mush from my lfs that is green peas, brine shrimp and a vitamin complex that my little swordies love. I also give them fine crushed tetra diskus and flakes. They also like the frozen black worms and brine shrimp they get and it is pretty cute watching them try to tear a hunk out of a shrimp that is not much smaller them they are. The best thing you can do is actually grind up several of the mollies and feed them to the other fry, this promotes their naturally predatory nature as well as transferring the power of their brothers to them. Most people don't know this.
