I think it depends on the type of sand you use, how coarse and how fine.

Can't get very detailed work out of it, regardless. :) I often nudge piles of sand about to acheive a more aesthetically pleasing mound.

I simply haven't thought of doodling yet.

It wouldn't last in my tanks for ten seconds. I have high turnover on all my tanks, plus a lot of my fish are bottom dwellers, who just wouldn't allow me the freedom to do something I want with the sand.

youcould write or draw something into it, but getting the definition would make it pointless. you would need t light it at the correct angle to shadow it to make it really obvious.

of course, you could always use black ta-huh-hee-shun sand in normal play sand to write something (pst like my spelling? :D)

never thought to, bored today though I might try. I move it around into piles sometimes, got no bottom dwellers in the tank with sand so nothing to even it out, wouldn't stand a chance if you had cory's or something like that though

My cory's leave me messages in the sand if they are hungry...

every time i clean my tank i level the sand out and and the fish find it ammusing to knock it about so a drawing wouldnt last 5 mins (i will be trying now though :hey: )

my tank is empty cuz its cycling but i just tryed to draw in the sand and it didnt really work :X would be funny thou if you could, again you might beable to in diferent kinds of sand im not sure

Looks like you might have started something here FKNM!

You could have sand as substrate and then use small rocks or large pebbles to write something. Then if it gets knocked about it would be easy to fix, also easy to change messages. :)

Why do you want to write on your sand anyway? Just curious, seems pretty funny.

Not a chance FKNM.

The fish are pesky little monsters and ours put the sand where they want it not where we want it. If perhaps you had no fish and no water movement it might work but I would stick to the fine gravel although I'm not sure that would work either

Good luck though.
