14 Gal Hexigon Tank ...best Fw Fish?

What kind of fresh water fish will do well in a smaller taller tank? I got a 14 gal hexigon for my bday when I was 12, my parents spent nearly 200 for the set, tank and stand, I would like to put it to good use again but I understand most fish wont do well in this type of tank. I would like to get a few schoolers and community fish that stay small and are sold at local pet stores. Any thoughts? I like bettas but only want an agressive fish as a last resort as I would like to have more variety rather than just one fish. Thank you!

Microrasboras stay small and many recommend them, but (where I live at least) they are hard to find. Endler's livebearers are colourful and small and quite common.

What are the dimensions of the tank, OP (just roughly will do) and is your water hard or soft?

Oh, and from how far away will you mostly be looking at the tank?

The dimensions are 12.5 wide by 18 1/4 tall im not sure if its a 15 or a 14 gallon. I was guessing 14 cuz thats what the lady at the petstore said when I asked her what size my tank might be as I didnt remember for sure, she said the older ones are 14 generally, but mines really not that old, not sure where she came up with that it was an old tank lol, well maybe 10 yrs but no older than that. If anyone knows the dimensions of a 15 gal and a 14 gal hex let me know lol! it would be great to solve that mystery.
