I would think it would work fine if it's all one piece (except for the top obviously). I've seen some pretty funky containers in use in the betta section....I wonder how thick the acrylic is?

You've got me thinking though -- I have a 6 gallon glass carboy (jug) I use for making wine. I think it would be cool to setup a little "water world" inside of it. Would take a lot of patience though as the mouth of the jug is very narrow and you would need to plant it using tongs. Kind of like building a ship in a bottle.

My only concern is that the box was never designed for holding possibly over 30lbs of water and substrate. Otherwise, it sounds like a cool idea. Whatcha gonna put in it?

Now I will be off-topic, pardon the hijack Fishkiller! I didn't know you made wine Squirrelbuddies! What kind? I'm a bit of a connoiseur. I have a collection of wine from the Rioja region of Spain. About 100-150 bottles, I haven't done an inventory in a while.

p.s. I didn't know you were a wine connoiseur :hyper: I've always thought you favored benedryl more! (haha! yeah, I read your other thread. Go easy on the benedryl!)

I'm a lady of many tastes. Sometimes it's a 1982 Rioja sometimes it's Benedryl. Actually so people don't think I advocate drug use, which I don't, I have very bad allergies and the benedryl is an inexpensive way to keep it in check. I've tried all the doctor-prescribed medications and they just don't work as well.

Back on topic, my gut says to go with a betta since you'll most likely be flamed for the dwarf puffer, but I'll give a word of warning for bettas, I started out with 1 and now I have 10. :look:

It is possible to resist, I haven't bought one for over 4 months. Go me! :good: Actually I have to find new homes for a few of them, especially the ones that don't travel as well.

Ah, bummer that it's not one piece...maybe something better will come along! I'd like one of those little all glass cubes you can buy on the Tropica website...I bet they are pricey though.

Regarding the winemaking --- I've produced 30 bottles each of merlot, cab and pinot grigio. I've not actually squeezed my own grapes yet. I just buy raw "wine making grape" juice, ferment it in a bucket, let it sit for a long time (in the carboy) and then bottle it. I prefer red wine, but I can't get it to come out as good as some of those fabulous Italian and Spanish reds. The pinot grigio is really good though, and I use most of it for cooking as it's nice and dry (and tasty!) I envy your collection of 100+ bottles!!

Now that's a nice tank. You may have to nix the betta though, they can be notorious jumpers.

I want a cube too! :shout:

(Goes off to grumble)

Ooooh, that is so sweet -- I guess you did indeed find something much nicer!! I'm with lljdma06 -- I want one, too!

*runs off to sulk*

I know, perfect for a desktop, with it's own cute little light too.

You sulk, I grumble. Same difference (goes off to get another shot of Cuban coffee)

Nice tank you got there fishkiller_nomore! Excellent price too!! :good:

Can't wait to see how you aquascape it!! So, have you decided what fish (if any) you will keep in there? Endlers maybe?

I think that you got a good price on that! The lighting fixture is a good one, with the heater and shipping too, yeah you got a good deal!! :D

The only small fish I can think of are endlers (which you already said you can't find) or perhaps killies (but they might be prone to jumping), or one of the gudgeons (sp?) which may be really hard to find. Maybe you don't want a fish at all, what about a crab tank? You would have to provide an area for them to get out of the water but a decent piece of driftwood stretching up to the surface would do the trick.....

you no you said you wanted a dwarf puffer....
well that is plenty of room for one i would think your tank is 8 gallon the reccomended tank size for dps is 5 gallons and some people even say 3 gallons so you could keep a solo dp in there

Well, it seems the seller had a natural-colored honey gourami in there. That's an option. A single male would be lovely. They don't jump like bettas and only get to be 1.75 inches long, plenty for a 4g. A lone sparkler might work well too. Maybe with some larger shrimps, that would be rather pretty, perhaps. Sparkling gouramis eat cherry shrimps, but I don't know about honey gouramis.

EDIT: just saw the advertisement. Crap, he's in IL! I'm in IL. I am so tempted right now. But another tank to move to South Florida? Do I want to, will mother be pissed?

Help FKNM, convince me.

EDIT #2: I got the 8g tank. I'm bad, so bad. How am I going to explain? :-( I will have severe MTS when I'm in Miami.

EDIT #3: I feel better now, no more grumbling for me. It's in a box, perfectly easy to move. I DON'T need the extra sweaters. I'm moving to MIAMI!!!!!!!!!!!

Doing the happy fishie dance. :yahoo: :fish:

Hee-hee! You are out of control!! Congrats, though! Now I feel really left out....must....resist....

They still got the one 4g left. I just think bigger! C'mon, we can be the tank triplets! Ya know ya wanna.

Ummm...yeah, it's no longer available. That's because I just got it!!! I can't wait for it to arrive. :hyper:

So, now I need to get to work on a planting scheme. Any ideas for "tiny" plants? Also, how deep should the gravel be in a planted tank this size? FKNM, see what you've done?! This all started with an acrylic cube with a basketball in it!!
