So I'm converting my 135g reef tank (72"x24"x18") to a planted tank (hopefully without the use of CO2). I used to have FW tanks but have been out of it for a while and so I'm a little rusty. I have sufficient lighting from my reef tank, as you can imagine, but obviously I won't be using all of it. My question would be, how much would I need so that I don't need to use CO2, or is that not recommended? I do plan on having lots of fish but that leads me to my second question; what should I stock? I am currently a blank canvas in terms of preference. Budget-wise I'm quite open as I'm hoping all the stuff I sell from my reef setup will compensate for the cost of the conversion. Any help would be appreciated!

First off the more light you put on your tank the more co2 your plants will require. So i would say add no more than 2 watts per gallon. I personally have run a 55 gallon with a 103 watt T5 and was completely satisfied. I hope you are not planning on using the same bulbs as you did for your reef ? Because saltwater corals and freshwater plants require different bulbs. I am running a 6500 k bulb and a Rosette bulb on my 55 gallon planted discus tank. And if you plan on getting a new light i would highly recommend the AquaticLife T5 HO Dual Lamp Light Fixture which can be purchased at Dr.foster and smith aquatics.
