It looks like snot. I don't know the exact makeup or terminology of it but i've seen a few fish take nips at my CO2 outlet.....hasn't killed them yet.

My guess would be sugar/yeast particles bonding with CO2 and vapors escaping out of the bottle?

I find i get this if i use bicarbonate of soda in my mix, and its the reason i stopped using it, i just do mixes with sugar yeast and water and skip the bicarb.

the reason for the white stuff is you live in a hard water area and so as was said before you need to stop using bicarb. as for the ants not a clue do they come out of the drain!?
