.

Personaly i would get rid of the resin root, it takes up to much room, and replace it with some plants.
You going to need them to keep the algae onster at bay.

It looks nice, although perhaps a bit busy ?

What substrate / ferts have you gone for ?

Personally I'd probably go for a slightly thicker substrate at the front, to allow plenty of root growth for the microswords.

You probably wont be able to tell until you put the plants in. Try it, and if you don't like it, remove it. :)

Much of this game is trial and error to start with. The real experts are able to plant with a vision in mind, take into account the growth rate and pattern, and then watch as they tank flourishes into what they had in mind. But even they started as beginners, experimenting and such. :)

Attach java ferns to your tree, it'll take a little longer for them to attach but they will eventually. That way you keep your tree and keep the algae monster, as someone so eloquently put it, away. It will also make the tree not look so bland.

Looks very cool. lot of thought gone into it, I can see.
I went for a grey and black look, was really pleased with the rock I chose and the gravel. I soo didn't want a brown set up. Lots of Valis to give verticals. All great. Then I started cycling and boom! brown algae over everything - couldn't see any grey there at all. was a really temporary algae bloom and plants soon took up the slack and it's nice and balanced now - but short of taking all the substrate out I'm stuck with greyish brown gravel.

oh and I bin told (lfs that I trust) not to put neons into anything less than a 4 month mature tank and that maybe 6 months would be better.
