Hi

Some advice please.

Have a 70G tank that is primarily used for plants.

Due to a problem that I won't bore you with ( never use HC!) my existing gravel has gone black & I will be starting again with Seachem eco- complete & draining my tank- but have 12 Danios that have been with me for 6 months & need to be rehomed during this time. The tank looks horrible at the bottom, but the water parameters are still perfectly OK (apart from PH- which as I have stopped the CO2 has risen back to 7.8- from 7.2)

I have bought a temporary 10G tank, which I will move my existing internal filter into (not too much room left !), plus 50% of their existing water.

Will need at least a month or two to replant, before the Danios can be moved back.

The new tank will have very basic 'living quarters' ie very decent sand, a couple of small rocks & the odd plant, plus their favourite floating water lettuces.

I know they will be a little bit 'overstocked' as such- but will they be OK for 4-6 weeks ??

Any other tips for me would be greatfully received.

Thank you

Should be fine, just ensure you can keep as much room as possible in the tank and make sure they have a fast enough flow.
Agreed. Short term should be fine, I would just be inclined to check water stats a little more frequently and to maybe expect an extra water change per week.

:good:

how long is the tank?

Will it really take 4 - 6 weeks to clean out the tank and re-plant? (obviously I don't know if theres any other influences/issues tied in with that :))

Could you not order all your plants, store them in buckets for a day while you move the danios out to the 10g, do the clean up and then plant?

Short term should be ok. 4-6 weeks is quite a long time to clean out and re-plant a tank, the sooner you finish the better

Thanks all

Yes, I am a plant person & will need this time to make sure my plants are thriving , before the Danios go back in.

Moved them today & they seem fine ( they are so hardy- up for food after about an hour). I have an awful confession to make in that one jumped out of my net before I could transport it over to their new home (fell on the wooden floor). He seems absolutely fine- these fish seem almost indistructable.

Again, thanks for your tips- great site for a newbie :good:
