I bought 5 female bettas yesterday, and now there in the tank. Now, I want some buddies to go alone. Ive read alot about tankmates, and I think I've decided on shrimp of some sorts. Few Questions:

1.) Does type matter? (I mean Cherry, ghost, etc. Ones that don't get huge)
2.) How many can I get? In tank now is just 5 bettas.
3.) If I get babies, can I expect them to be lunch?

Thanks

Ive been searching for an answer on how many Cherry Shimp (I decided to get this kind of shrimp) I can fit in the tank.

This is my figuring, Please tell me if this hypothesis would work out or not.

I read a single betta will be fine in anything over a gallon.
- So, i figure if I have 5 bettas, then as far as bio-load it like taking up 5 gallons of water.

Next, I read cherry shrimp do with 1/4 gallon per shrimp.
- So, I figure I have 5 gallons left, so I could put up to 20 in there.

However, since I only have so much room for hiding, I think Ill stick to maybe 10 shrimp. Does this sound good?

I'm not very familiar with "shrimp keeping" but they will become a delicious snack for you females if they are small enough. even if they are larger, they might be harassed to no end.

I wouldn't advise it.... but I've never tried it. 10 shrimp seems like quite a bit for a 10 gal. start with 1 or 2 and see how things go and make sure your water stats (Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate) check out. That way your not wasting money if thing dont work.

I read there good tankmates. Hmm Well the bettas are small now (so, like inch long body), so no is the time to get shrimp, because I can get one bigger than them. Any more thoughts?

I would start out with just two or three shrimp to begin with, to see how the girls adjust to them. if the bettas are young growing up with tank mates can help them be less agressive to them, compared to bettas grown to adult hood in a jar then forced to have tank mates.

Try it with a few and see how things go. It's worth a shot. :)

I have heard that they can be tank m8s... but i'm not so convinced on the practicality.
