10g divided

I noticed that my divided 10g is clean on one side (Betta side) and has algae on the other (Paradise Fish side). I am not noticing many snails on the PF side, is she killing them? The filter empties on her side, so does this have anything to do with it? There are snails on the Bettas side, are these eating the algae there? The divider has small holes in it, so there should be circulation throughout the tank. Can't figure out how algae can only be growing on one side.

one obivous thing to check for is the light source. since the water is basically the same on both sides, i doubt water stats would cause algea on just one side
