I have finally got my boys back into a large tank (5'x18"x18"), not as good as the 7.5'x21"x33" monster I lost but still better than nothing.

So having a spare tank, I had to put fish in it, right? I have established filters, and introduced a Dwarf Gourami (Royal Blue/Royal Neon Blue etc.) and 6 peppered cory's. Half the tank is full of fake plants the gourami can hide in (he doesn't) and the surface has a scattered coverage of live plants, Yamato Shrimp (I think advertised as Japanes shrimp) to be added.

Two questions on behaviour, the gourami is swimming back and forth along the walls of the tank, usually the back but sometimes the front or one side, is this normal?
The cory's, who I expected to be bottom dwelling, spend half their time in the top half of the tank, often upside down nibbling on the floating plants...Is this normal?

My real question is, the tank is themed red and green, the fish I've chosen are blue in hue, with those considerations, what should I get as a shoal? I'm looking for 5 or 6 fish, ok to be introduced in 2s or 3s all the same species. Tank is 28"Lx12"Wx18".
I'm thinking barbs or tetras (do you get black skirt/widow tetras in blue?) but the colours don't excite me on lots of the,, the tank is to be viewed from approx 6 foot away...

Advise away.

I'll start with your last question first... There are albino widows that are dyed blue, don't buy these its very cruel to the fish, and they often have shorter lifespans. Consider Colombian tetras, nice blue bodies with red fins.

As for the behaviors, fish imo tend to cruise the glass for two reasons. One, they see their reflection and are attempting contact. Two they are trying to move further than the glass will let them. Once some algae builds up, they tend to stop. You cories have probably found a good source of food and are just grazing at the surface.
