I have been offered an 100 gallon corner tank, for about $350 U.S. I want to attempt a planted Discus tank, mainly with Anuibias, floating plants, mosses, and ribbon like vals that the discus can swin through. My quyestion is, given that the tank has a filtration hole/filter section cut out/built in, what kind of filter can I use in there? If I am limited to sump and/or trickle filters, is that good for plated tanks?

sump and trickle filters use more CO2 as it gasses off, unless you can get it where the water is flowing smoothly (not splashing around) so that it holds most of the CO2 content, this i imagine would be quite hard. But you do not say wether you will be injecting CO2 or not so this may not occur to you.

look forward to the pics ;)

For that tank, if I buy it, I will hook up a fully automated CO2 system, so if it is not canister compatible, I may not choose to get it (going to see it on Saturday). I really want to do a planted discus tank. I will post pictures of my 'moved' 55 gallon tank just as soon as I add a second co2 fermentation system to it and grow back the damaged plants. The new tank will take months, but perhaps I can do a start to finish posting of that tank, getting some suggestions along the wayhint hint). In my 55, the sword and jungle val look ruined. I dare not prune the val at this point, but what should I do to the sword? There is one new, undamaged leaf coming up in the middle, while ALL of the other (outside) leaves are transluscent/damaged. Could I cut the crown down to one leaf and wait? Or should I just prune off a few of the outer leaves at first???
