I used to use incandescent lights in my aquarium, but I now have two florescent bulbs that I use. As I have two bulb that screws in.

I believe the package says they are 10 W each totalling 20 W from both bulbs all together? It's pretty bright. Will this do for plants?

Depends on the size of the tank. Also depends on the plants. Looking for something around 1-3 or so WattsPerGallon. So 20W would be 1 WPG on a 20G tank.

20w over a 10G is ok, and you'll probably be able to grow most of the less demanding species. BTW when you say you screw the bulbs in, are they normal room lights that you've just put over the tank? If so that probably wont work as well as strip lights designed for aquariums as the light they emit is not the right type.

As long as you bought them at a lfs or wal-mart they should be ok, those are the type I use in my 5.5 and my plants grow well.
