10 Gallon Tank + Danio Problems

Thanks a lot emma for telling me it's at least 15 gallon tank *happy now since I know it's able to keep danios with min requirement :)*

The wolf, *yeah happy to know I can still keep those zebra danio as well as able to buy some cleaner fish* There *seems* doesn't have any other danio than those 2 types I bought in the 3 fish shop I've visited here... :( visited your website even before I post anything on this forum and just now visited again looking for more info of those fishes names you put down (named those I still can buy) ^.^

(actually I bought 2 'cleaner fish' yesterday when I bought those 3 test kits) due to the aglae problems I got with those anubias barteri and anubias nana (on top of thier leaves, holes, aglae and mud...) I know I shouldn't buy anything more but they (those plants) are there since day 1 (smaller plants- anubias nana) and day 4 (the bigger ones - 2 anubias barteri) (pictures below)

Not quite sure about what are those 2 'cleaner fish' deal to the fish keeper don't know a thing about the names (can already know by how he told me leopard danio = zebra danio) Well I guess they are something between corydoras melanistius /corydoras reticulatus? anyone could able to tell? Thanks (picture below, they both are 1 to 1.4 inchs max.)

took these pictures yesterday and hope maybe I can get helps with problems I once have got in my tank (those problems are mainly cause by my limited knowledge about danios + the knowing 'nothing-much' fish shop keepers whose introduce me those fishes from 3 different fish shops ))

One more important thing: 2 zebra danio dead with strange things happened on them :
http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=115013

I assure the filter killed both (But mainly the first zebra danio died due to he was the weakest out of all danios I bought home, still, without the filter It WON'T died that quick)

Hi,

Your new corys are Pepper Catfish (Corydoras paleatus) they should really be in groups of 3 or more, so one you are sure the cycle is complete you could add to their group. They should be fed on sinking pellets and don't eat algae but they will eat bits of food that fall to the bottom.

A suitable algae eater for your tank would be a group of otocinclus which only group 2 inches long, they are very sensitive to water conditions though and so shouldn't be added until the tank has been running for 6 months or more.

Your tank has finished it's cycle when ammonia and nitrite are both 0, so keep up with the water changes and it won't be long.

Emma

emma! thanks for helping me out to classisfic them :) Pepper Catfish should be a group of 3 or more are seem once again *sigh* my lack of knowledge to make that mistake again (first with danio and now with corydoras)....... I only changed 3 times water since day I opened the tank (Changed water on day 16, which is the day after I put 6 danios in, but only about 10% of whole tank water) Do you Think should change more water in next few days?

I did a little search on the otocinclus pictures which I can search by using yahoo image search. I think they are called 'frying fox' in Chinese words. As I've asked in fish shops before, there aren't any of those in stocks for past 2 weeks (But luckily there weren't else I would have been running risks to make some other fish-lives in dangerous situation)

(UPDATES: Now I doubt if they are called flying fox... I guess they are different things... will look more information about otocinclus)

So my algae in fish tank here needed to wait 6 more months to be cleared out? :/

- I lost a Danio, found at the filter inlet with no signs of damage/disease. Mine was probably due to stress though. An injured/weak fish WILL be picked on by the others in the tank - I had to euthanase a deformed Molly because of this fact.

- You can reduce feeding to every other day to keep waste down while your filter is maturing. Some people feed this way all the time.

- For reference, my tank is a Rekord 70 Litre (18 US Gallons) with 5x Zebra Danios, 4x Mollys and 3x Bronze Catfish. Water stats are fine, they seem happy enough (no fighting). One molly just gave birth to at least three babies. I do a 20-40% water change every weekend normally with a gravel cleaner.

Don't worry about getting things wrong in the early days - the important bit is to stabilise the tank right now with water changes. Do NOT use chemicals to remove ammonia/nitrites - they will cause you long-term pain.

Please post back soon with an update.

Hi & thanks jmkgreen,

I will do another update on HP, ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate levels tonight...

Right now 3 zebra danio 1 leopard danio and 2 Corydoras Paleatus (Thanks a lot emma for telling me their names and all about voulme in tank)

That's good news since no fish died yesterday (I wonder if it's too dark so they bang on those filter suction part and died. I close lights when I'm sleeping as well as not open any lights on top of the fish tank)

Gravel cleaner?.... I Never did know how to add + get water out of the tank.. I use a glass to take water out, and another bowl to put water in..... Gravel cleaner to clean fish waste and left fish food on top of the gravel? Where I can buy those?

Everytime I put my hand or net or anything in fish tank, those danios seems like want to 'taste' the things I put in...

I feed my danio twice a day with little amount of food (dries fish food). afraid them being hurgry... all danios having little tummy... But always make sure not over fed though

Do NOT use chemicals to remove ammonia/nitrites - they will cause you long-term pain
Thanks for this big advice :)

jmkgreen, isn't it a good idea to buy another danio to group all danio into 6+ numbers? *I am planning to buy 2 more leopard danio. Then there will be 3 zebra danio and 3 leopard danio. ^.^

Well why aren't your danio laying any eggs? Heard They lay eggs oftenly..

Yeah, I made enough mistakes to stir enough chaos inside my fish tank. Don't want any more fishes died because of me again
