hi all

tomorow im going to my LFS to get some fish for my 10 ukgallon

need some ideas for what to put in it

i would like some kind of shoaling fish

but plzz let me no what you would put in a 10 ukgallon tank

thanx

small like rasboas and tetras or like platies???is there anything in the tank is it cycled

Better yet get a divider and get two bettas!!
I love bettas....... :)

Do you want a typical community? Will it be planted?

Myself, I'd go for some multifasciatus shell-dwellers or a tiny community - probably with 5 spotted rasboras, 3 pygmy cories and a trio of sparkling gouramies or mosquito fish.

Alternatively, 6 neon tetras and 2-3 otos would work or 7 pygmy cories (which are schooling fish and actualy spend most time in the middle layers) with a couple of honey gouramies or maybe a pair of rams with some harlequin rasboras.

Then there's killifish or dwarf puffers. Plenty of very small rasboras, khulie loaches and other small loaches, the smaller cories, black phantom tetras, cardinals, neons, other small tetras, spotted rasboras, harlequin rasboras, some microsrasboras, cherry barbs, platies, guppies, endler's livebearers, mosquito fish, african butterfly fish, peackock gudgeons/gobies and similar oddballs, honey gouramies, sparkling and possibly croaking gouramies, dwarf gouramies and female bettas...

Obviously, not all those fish will get on together so watch what you choose but there are plenty of fish that can be put in a 10 gallon if their tank-mates and the aquascaping suits them.

thanx

I'm very happy with my 10 gallon tank with 6 red rasboras and some snails. I thought about adding a couple more rasboras but haven't decided on that yet.

Killifish are gorgeous. And so easy to breed. You might be able to make some money by selling the killie fry- most shops would like some, I'm sure. My personal fave is apophysemion australe (can't spell it), also known as the Cape Lopez Lyretail. Its a mop spawner, so is super easy to collect eggs from. Google it and see what you think.

hi all

i like the idea of keeping killie fish

can anyone tell me any good web sites on the care and breeding of them

thanx alot

Butterfly fish get to 4" and stick to the very top layer of the tank so I would only get one to give it some room. They like to eat smaller fish and live foods so whatever you put in has to be reasonably sized. I'd probably keep it with peaceful bottom dwellers such as a couple of khulie loaches or 2-3 nearly full-grown cories (just don't get tiny ones :p). Or you might be able to keep it with a pair of rams if the tank was planted and well-filtered.

Here are some killi sites:
