10 Gallon Stocking Question

I have an empty 10 gallon tank. I do not want normal community fish as I have a 30 gallon with tropical fish but I want something colorful and some cichlids have beautiful color. Would it work?

The only cichlid option would be african shell dwellers, i.e. Neolamprologus multifasciatus and similar species

unfortunately, most shellies don't really have bright colors, but they're plenty interesting, which makes well up for it.
