I Rememberd i had a small tank of about 10 gallons years ago in the loft, so i went up there and found the thing, its one of those small bow front filter-and-light-built-in thingys, so i stripped all the back out and have put a brand new internal filter and heater so i can use this to treat sick fish etc....I really advise anyone who is starting to get into tropical fish to have one as they are only too handy.

Il post some pictures of it when its been cycled and ready to go.

if you have a cannister filter or space on what ever filter you do have place the media from your QT tank filter in your main tanks filter.

now when you come to using the tank you just take the foams from your filter and put them in for QT tank and hey presto ready to treat.

to have the QT tank running and ready for sick fish all the time your going to need to have a fish in there or a supply of ammonia.

without ammonia the filters bacteria will just die off.

prehaps in a 10 gallon, you can get a tiny catfish for it, for the reason paul stated.

I'm glad this topic came up.

I've got an opportunity to buy a 2nd hand 2' tank with light, no filter or thermostat but it's £30, probably can offer less.

Does this sound like a good deal for a QT tank?

i bought a 5 gallon for QT

The first fish it was for was a betta that is still being quarantined after 5 months :)

Yeh i got a pleco whos gunna be the host for my QT tank, yeh its gunna be running all the time.

I would be careful just keeping a pleco in there because some of the medications you have to add to the sick fish maybe harmful for the pleco after you treat. I know that the pleco wont be in there when you treat, but afterwords, the meds could settle out in the substraight and be comsumed by the pleco. I would put a small algea eating free swimmer in there instead, less exposure to the rocks, but will still keep the algae down and the bacteria alive.

exactly :D

especially since quarantining a betta you'll be keeping in it's own tank is rather pointless!!

and i'm afraid to buy another QT tank cause i know what will happen... MTS for ya

I have a 5G bowfront for QT and Hospital tank. I heard you should have a 10G, but a 5G works just as well. But then again, my largest fisdh is little less that 6 inches, so its not that big of a deal for me :S
