I have a 10 gallon planted tank (not too heavily) and a purple spotted gudgeon. I was thinking of getting a tank mate for it. At first I was thinking about another gudgeon, but after realizing that rainbow fish are also Australian I was thinking about getting about 3 dwarf rainbowfish. Does this seem like too many fish or would this be reasonable as the rainbow fish are top dwelling and the gudgeon is a bottom dweller?

A purple spot gudgeon (Morgurnda species) will eat any fish under 2 inches so dwarf rainbows may not be the best choice of tankmates.

To be honest you need to get a bigger tank for it as well, PSG grow to at least 6" so a minimum of a 24x12x15" is needed to keep one, especially if you want to keep them with other tankmates.
