I am currently housing 5 Zebra Danios in a fully-cycled 10 gallon tank and I am look for just a little addition to spice up the tank.

I'm looking for a solid centerpiece fish for a 10 gallon (which is proving to be no small feat). I want it to be something that will do well on its own (doesn't need a school of its own kind) that will really stand out in the tank. Preferably a mid swimmer.

I also would like a small bottom dweller to round out the tank, and my top choice would be an Oto. The problem is, I would rather not pack 3 of them in the tank with the danios and the whatever centerpiece fish might end up being. Does anyone know if these guys can do alright on their own, and if not what else might you suggest for the bottom?

Thanks for any help guys

Without knowing the actual dimensions of the tank, it's hard to advise.

For the centrepiece fish, a male plakat betta would be nice (avoid regular males with long find, as there's basically a 50/50 chance the zebras would nip at his tail). A paradise fish would be cool too, or maybe a pair of honey gouramis. A single blue ram or a male and a female would be OK as long as you centred the tank around them. If your interested read this: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?s=&amp...t&p=2455174

Could also look into killifish and get a pair of suitable species (there should be loads).

Avoid otos, even three of them would be a very small group and they do require extra attention. Dwarf corys would be nice, or maybe a single clown plec (provided you make sure it gets algae wafers,). A couple of dwarf frogs would be cool too, again as long as you make sure they get fed properly (usually initially seem to only eat frozen food like bloodworm, make sure the zebras dont eat it all first).

I like a lot of the options for the centerpiece and I'm really loving the Clown Pleco. Are they common?

I personally find Dwarf Frogs a bit dull so I'll probably stay away from that.

My tank is already pretty close to a Blue Ram's liking, albeit the PH should come down a little bit.

That was a perfect help, thanks a bunch

Also, are there any particular breeds of killifish you would suggest?

Clown plecs are common at aquatics stores, though not so much at big chain pet stores. You may need to call around, but somewhere in your area should have them in stock.

A pair of Fundulopanchax gardneri would be nice. I'm only really recommending these because they are the only species I have personal experience with so far - best to ask in the killifish forum :).

I'd suggest a male betta, or even a very brightly coloured female. You could try a long finned one, but the fins might become a little too tempting for the danios. If you give it a shot, make sure you have a 3 gallon minimum back-up tank for the poor boy in case he gets nipped.

You'd need a back-up tank anyway if you get a betta as some just will NOT tolerate tank-mates. Awesome fish though.
