I am going to start my 10 gal back up again. I would like to have some nice colorful active fish. I am not looking at putting in any cichlids. This is what I would like to start with when the cycle is all done.

4-6 neon tetras
2 black skirt tetras

Any other suggestions for a nice colorful active tank? Please list how many as well.

:)

10G, eh? I use to have 3 of them running at once and I felt like I was running a fish farm! Now that I have had much larger tanks, I realize how truely difficult it is to stock them!

My suggestion would be to get a small school of neons and a small school of cories. That'd look cool.
And remember the small part. ;)

Hey you too, I had my 25 gal and 4 10 gals going as I was breeding livebearers and angels, that was about 6 years ago. I have been in the fresh water hobby for 20+ years. Now I have turned to the saltwater hobby the past 3 years. Just love it, lots to learn and alot less forgiving than freshwater that is for sure. So at this point I only have my 25 gal salt tank. I watch it everynight, it has been going for 3 years now and it is just great. Very expensive but nice.

Back to the 10 gal, you know I always said that if and when I set my freshwater tank back up that I would love nothing more than to fill it with neons, put my 50/50 light I used for my saltwater tank on that and wow what a nice punch of color that would be. So I just might do that.

:D

wow sounds cool! heavily plant the 10gal and maybe throw in afew guppies but then the neons might nip. not sure if they will or not. ive had neons with bettas and they were scared of him even though he never flared at them the betta was really peaceful.

what works for one person may not work for everyone.
I don't suggust neons w/ guppies.

At petsmart they mixed the guppies in with the neons for a week....

The guppies looked really attractive, moved a lot....

But only because they were in guppy hell, constantly being foced to move unless they wanted to be neon nibbled.

I would concentrate on the neons and lose the black skirts. Two is going to be quite an wakward number for them. IF you want a bit of extra activity, how about some small corys?

That is what I was thinking as I go along:

2 cory cats
1 otto
school of neons
school of another small tetra fish

I have a nice piece of drift wood and throw some plants in there too. Looking for a nice punch of color and movement.....
