Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior):
one of my 5 week old cory fry keeps lying on his side.hes eating ok and can swim across the bottom of the tank ok for a short space but when he tries to swim above the bottom (heading for the surface) he manages to go so far then it just sort of floats back down to the bottom on its side.i have looked at it through a magnifying glass and can not see any tears or fungus or anything on its fins or tail & there appears to be nothing up with its body.what i have noticed is that it (and one more) are alot smaller and not as well developed as the others.is it just a case of only the fittest will survive and since this one is a runt its days are numbered?should i isolate it and try and treat it with meds or should i treat the whole tank?if so what should i use (im from the uk)

Volume and Frequency of water changes:25-30% daily cus theres no filter in there

Bacteria infection swim bladder, does he look bloated, once it has progrressed it hard to cure, can you issolate the sick fish, once the lay on there sides not good news, if he's still eating you could try some shelled peas, what do you feed the fish.

hi wilder,i feed all the fry just microworms at the moment.he doesnt look bloated at all.i isolated him in his own tank yesterday and had a really good look at him using a magnifying glass and i can honestly say that i cant see anything at all wong with him, thats whats puzzeling me.today he seems to be swimming a little bit better and moving about abit more.he can actualy manage to swim to the surface now and doesnt immediatly lose its balance and float back down on its side to the bottom.also when its on the bottom of the tank it stays upright for quite a while before losing its balance and falling to its side, where as the other day it spent more time on its side than upright!
what would cause swim bladder,is it contagious?would he be more prone to get it cus he is a little runt?is there anthing i can do to ensure that none of my other fry get it?
thanks for the help wilder and sorry to be askin so many questions but i really dont want to lose all my fry to it.
shaz :)

Corys are prone to bacterial infecions, i would still feed him the peas, to clear him out, they need frozen foods and veg in there diet, plus i vac there gravel twice a week so they are not eating contaminated food off the bottom, good luck.

Hi Wilder

How do you give the corys the peas? Do you have to cook them? Do you use fresh, frozen or canned? Do you give them whole or crushed? Sorry for all the questions.
Thanks, Carmen
;)

Frozen peas are the best just cook in boiling water for a few minutes, let cool down, pop out of shell, mush between fingers and add to the tank, canned just pop out of shell and mush between fingers and add to the tank, good luck.
