Hi guys,

I have a 30 gallon tank, planted, ammonia and nitrite levels are practically zero, and PH is 7.4

I found one dead tiger barb, and another kinda sulking not swimming much at the top of the tank. the second, sick barb, also has a red growth above its eye.

Any ideas? I took the second sick one out of the tank for the time being.

Thanks in advance.

oh, other fish in the tank, 7 neon tetras, 2 small angel fish, a small catfish, and three that im not sure of i think possible swordtails.

Are ammonia and nitrite reading 0 then.
Does the red growth have a white edging to it or just all red.

Yes Ammonia and nitrites are zero, just looked at the sick tiger barb, and the the red spot does seem to have a white edge around it.

I dont have another tank that I can isolate the tiger barb in, is it possible to isolate it in a bowl, if I change the water often enough?

Also, is there a chance of anything happening to my other fish, weird that one was dead, and this one has an ulcer in the same day.

You need plenty of aeration in a tank when using meds so no the bowl is not good.
I would medicate the whole tank then, and increase aeration in the tank.
Ulcers are bacerial but sometimes can be caused by parasites.

one last question, would it be worthwhile doing a half water change, it has been a few weeks since i last changed it, but all levels are good, i think mostly in part to the plants.

thanks for all the help..

Yes water change to dilute the bacteria down in the tank.
Then add the med and increase aeration in the tank.
Good luck.

Wow, well better make that 2 dead tiger barbs, while we were messaging back and forth, the sick one did a freaky swim around the edge of the bowl he was in, which by the way he hadnt been in that long, then after his little swimming spasm, he layed over and died....:( Ulcer can kill like this normally?

Bless him R.I.P.
Stress can kill them aswell, if he was really poorly stressing him by catching him and putting him in the bowl yes can finish them off.
I would still medicate the tank to be on the safe side.
Make sure he's dead as sometimes they can look dead but they are not.
Check his gills for movement.
