Hi. Im sitting trying to make a mix up of EI, yet i have no idea what so ever how to measure 1/16 tsp !!! the smallest my measure is 1/2 tsp on my spoon.

That is roughly 1.5 mm. A scale would be more accurate but you could use a baby cough medicine dispenser. It has mm on the side. Price is aprox. $1. at Wall-Mart, a department store in the USA.

ok i bought some scales today. how do i work out 1/16th on them?

You could also just create a diluted solution and dose 5 mls or so (which you make equivalent to 1/16 tsp). I use my old 250 ml flourish bottles with the 5 ml caps for this purpose.

from JamesC website:

Teaspoon quantities
I have calculated the amount of each chemical by weighing the amount using a standard teaspoon (5ml) which is available from most kitchen stores. Depending on where you obtain your chemicals from you may get slightly different weights. I get all mine from Aqua Essentials. Here are the weights I have used for each chemical using one teaspoon:

Potassium Nitrate 6.0g
Potassium Phosphate 6.6g
Potassium Sulphate 5.1g
Magnesium Sulphate 5.1g
Calcium Sulphate 4.1g

so each of the above is equivalent to 5ml. just do a bit of math to work out what you need:

1tsp - 5ml / 2 = 0.25
1/2tsp - 2.5ml / 2 = 1.25
1/8tsp - 1.25ml / 2 = 0.65

1/16th = 0.65ml

then the same applis to below for each different nutrient:

KNO3 - 5ml = 6g
2.5ml = 3g
1.25ml = 1.5g

0.65ml = 0.75g (this is for KNO3)

Thanks for that! i am reeeeeeeeeealy reeeeeeaaaly rEEEAAAAAALY bad at maths. You have no idea lol.

1tsp - 5ml / 2 = 0.25
1/2tsp - 2.5ml / 2 = 1.25
1/8tsp - 1.25ml / 2 = 0.65

Sorry aaron, I don't know whats happening here?

if 1tsp = 5ml
1/2tsp = 2.5
1/4tsp = 1.25
1/8tsp = 0.63
1/16tsp = 0.31ml

so 1/16tsp of KNO3 would be 0.31ml and weigh 0.38g

1tsp - 5ml / 2 = 0.25
1/2tsp - 2.5ml / 2 = 1.25
1/8tsp - 1.25ml / 2 = 0.65

Sorry aaron, I don't know whats happening here?

if 1tsp = 5ml
1/2tsp = 2.5
1/4tsp = 1.25
1/8tsp = 0.63
1/16tsp = 0.31ml

so 1/16tsp of KNO3 would be 0.31ml and weigh 0.38g

yes you are correct, i have missed the 1/4tsp out which has sent it off towards the end, thanks for pointing that out. :)

i have a 1/16th teaspoon measuring spoon
i got it from a bakeware shop / cookery supplys they are on a chain and very helpful

might be another easy idea

I had to get them when my son was born and we had to mix 2 medicines together we found this the easiest way as the syringe always got air in them and never got an acurate measure

So try a bakeware shop i know mine werent that expensive
