Just noticed it this morning in the tank. It keeps emitting a cloud of slightly white water.

That is a stomatella. It's a flat shelled snail. They are wonderful algae grazers and the flat shell allows them to get into areas other snails can't. They also can bread in the aquarium which is fun. They do fall prey to hermits quite easily because they don't have a very protective shell, certainly no operculum. Stomatella are perfectly harmless.
 
Spawn away! They are sexual reproducers though so it won't get him anywhere. They do readily bread in tanks though when both sexes are present.
