yesterday i brought a peppered cory to go with my other 2... yesterday he was doin fine swimmin with everyone doin the ritual of 'dig in sand' but today hes floating around... lookin realy ill...

he hasnt eaten, iv done a partial water change to see if it helps but nope :(

readings for tank are

ammonia 0
nitrite 0-5?? dunno its got a tint to it but not much... its just gettin a readin if that helps?
nitrate 30
ph 7.5

i do water changes every 3 days, i feed a varied diet they also only get fed once a day... nothin untoward has happened in my tank... i just dont know what to think :-(

it is my newly setup tank... but i used filter media and even balanced some gravel in an old stcking inside the tank... ....do u think i should put him in my matured tank to see if that helps?

Your Nitrate is a bit high and I don't know you should be registering nitrIte at all.

However, if your other fish are all fine I do not know that it would be a problem. Keep up with water changes to get your Nitrate down. Maybe he just needs more time to settle in.

How does he look pysically?

his colors are darker than the other two... hes not breathin heavey... in fact u can hardly tell hes breathin at all

my nitrates are the same in both tanks they nevcer go below 30.. but then again never go over 30... the nitrite is 0 in my mature tank.. so i shipped him over there in my breeders box... in both tanks there is no ammonia tracable... in other words it didnt register on my test kit...

feel sorry for the little guy i realy do :(

Hi nightlife20 :)

Why not turn him loose in the tank so he will begin to feel comfortable.

Fish often undergo stressful conditions when they are being shipped to or kept at a lfs and arrive at your tank in a somewhat weakened condition. They may be susceptible to bacterial infections, ich, and other things that your older fish might not be troubled with.

Just keep an eye on him for a while to be sure he's alright. If he was coming down with a bacterial infection, putting him in good clean water could just make the difference in whether he gets sick or heals naturally.

hi inch,
with u knowin alot about cories i need some advice hun, when a cori has ich does it look the same as other fish?
the reason im asking this is because by the looks of it the little guy has ich... its all over him :-( as a precaution iv treated both tanks with interpet anti whitespot an ich thingy... hopefully this might help him a little bit... is there anythin else i can get for him tomoz that might help him?

as for me puttin him in the breeders box, its realy for his own protection.. hes in with barbs.. 15 of them... at the moment they are re-establishin there pecking order... (lot of nippin goin down) as i added 5 new ones yesterday (also changed layout of tank) another reason for this is because hes floating with the current of the tank.. and keeps gettin stuck behind the filter... could u pm me with any advice?

ill try an get a pic of him..

Hi nightlife20 :)

A picture would help.

I believe that corys can get ich, but they usually don't. If you post a picture, please put a link here so I will get an email about it, and I'll go take a look.

ok tried get a few pics these are the best i can do, the more i look at it the more im thinkin ich...

what would i need for this?????

its all over his fins and looks quite fuzzy... but the ones on his body looks like 'grains of salt'

iv put in the ich medication just to be on the safe side... but if i have to tomorow ill do 75%water change an try the fungus stuff...

Poor guy, I don't think ich would be "fuzzy". That will be 'cotton wool' fungus. I am not sure what you'd need to treat first and with what. I don't know if there are meds that treat both fungus and ich. Hmmm *has a look at med cupboard*.

I can't see anything but that doesn't mean there isn't a way round it. I would sugest putting the temp up and isolating him and treating fungus. I wouldn't put the temp up too much as they like cooler temps (I have some in my coldwater tank). Also doing frequent gravel cleans will get the parasties that fall off him to the bottom before free swimming (that's how I understand it).

I am not sure though, hopefully someone else will help.

((hugs)) good luck

right iv rinsed off my quarintine tank, its a bare-bottomed one so theres no gravel to syphone off :/ , iv attached a little air stone in there as iv not got a filter that small and a small heater think its 35wat? :( its all new water (dechlorintaed) all hes doin is goin in circles bent in half (in a c shape) i feel like tryin to whipe some of it off to try an help, its all over his gills and everythin... god i hope he can last through the night for me :-(
hate this part of the hobby i realy do :X
