hmmm,looks like it could be the early stages of a fungus,possibly saprolegnia
How does it look today,worse?

I thought about a cyst too, but it also looks like it could be a wound now that I look at it closer

looks like the start of fungus use metaflex or a general bacterial treatment and take the carbon out ur filter

She seems fine except for the bump. She's eating etc. I added a little melafix, just in case, last nite. It looks a little better today. Smaller, I think.

First have you had that betta for long?
In petstores, the fish are kept in crappy conditions [not your own tank, but in fish stores]
If this is a new fish, it is quite possible that it is suffering from some sort of illness while in the pet stores. Not in your own tank.
Treat it like fungus, if it doesn't improve than it is a cyst.

She is now all better! It was just a small cut I think. She is happily living in a new 1 gallon aquascene and eating and swimming normally.
