Jewel Trigon 190L Corner tank, stand and marine setup

Sadly my Mother in law has recently passed away and my Brother in Law is having to move out of their house so needs to sell her marine tank. Jewel Trigon 190 Corner tank with stand Heaters and 4 (maybe 5) power heads Aftermarket LED. Unsure on spec but the Greenstar Polyp and a stray mushroom...

    Sump? Canister? Sponge Filter?

Is there a pipe/hole coming from inside the tank to outside of the tank? On the two return sections is it connected through the back of the tank or are there compartments built into the tank behind them? It's hard to tell from the photos how the water is flowing through this. If you can get...

    Opinions? Ideas?

Yeah apparently it's full spectrum so in theory at least it's putting out usable light. Doesn't tell you how much light though which is common for LEDs. Honestly the budget led's are never going to be the best light ever but a lot of them will do the job just fine. With your plants choice I...

How many posts are made on here each day..?

Yeah I really do miss the days of forums. Social media has killed the majority of them off and its a shame. Social media can be useful for getting a quick answer on something but the biggest issue in my opinion is that information is never retained on there. On a forum I can look back on a post...

Looking to make a small profit with a fishkeeping project. Thoughts and advice?

There is lots of great info and advice in this thread. With the risk of sounding like a party pooper though I would say actually making a profit from anything aquatics related is fairly difficult. Anything you buy from a fish shop is being bought by them for next to nothing and has various...

    Potting soil under sand?

This is true. Though in reality it can often takes many years for this to be a factor. In that time you get great plant growth with very little extra work involved. I've had aquasoil based tanks running with high light/CO2 and good growth for 4+ years while only dosing Micros and potassium, so...

    Opinions? Ideas?

Can't really tell without the technical spec for the light unit. If you can find a make and model for it you can sometimes look it up. I don't know the brand aquaneat but looking it up they seem to be putting out a full spectrum LED light. From the quick reviews I looked at it looks pretty for...

    Potting soil under sand?

It can work, its been done successfully many times and I have done it myself. However in my experience its a mess and more faff than its worth. Using an "active" substrate is a valid way of doing things and my preferred method. In my experience I find it better to use dedicated "aquasoil"...

    Opinions? Ideas?

What size is the tank and what is the lighting like? Ambulia - Pretty hardy, doesn't need bright light. Can get fairly big but can be kept trimmed back. dwarf sag - Again pretty easy to grow, slightly high light demand but nothing major. red tiger lotus - Would do better with higher light and...

    Irritated and frustrated...

I only use facebook for sharing family photos with my family and for a few groups that I'm a member of on there. Some of the groups are amazing and friendly/helpful. Most of the blacksmithing groups and the Gaslands group are especially nice. The 3D printing ones are a bit hit and miss. The...

    Phosphate questions

Yeah I would go the more plants route. Add in some floating plants and a gew gast growers and it will take care of the phosphate. Also how long has the tank been running. Brown stains that rub off sounds like diatoms. If it is a fairly new tank this is pretty common and will sort itself out anyway.

    Blue green algae

It can happen in new setups due to: Overfeeding Phosphate in source water Cheap/poor quality food with high phosphate In tanks with plants it can happen early due to one of the above and then the plant growth kicks and in solves the problem. In these cases it is definitely due to "pollution"...

    Blue green algae

Do you have a phosphate test kit? My guess would be high phosphates. Possibly from the food but could be from source water. Edit: sorry missed that you said you was getting a phosphate test kit. Also test tap water as well if tank shows high level. How heavily planted is it? Can you add any...

    External heater?

Sorry this doesn't really answer your question directly but for a tank that size have you not just considered ditching filters all together and putting in a sump? Will be cheaper and more effective than the filters and you can then just stick some normal heaters in there.

    68L HighTech Style Planted

So been awhile since I update. Its basically just in "maintenance mode" now. I ended up rehoming the male Gourami. After initially being super aggressive he then went into a sulk and hid at the back of the tank all the time. The females are doing great though and getting big fast. I might in...
